Length 82 cm, height 40 cm Abdullah Selim first studied at the Institute of Fine Arts in Baghdad and then at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence, where he completed his studies in sculpture in 1979. He has lived and worked in Ticino since 1981. In his sculptural work, which is influenced by both classical sculpture and modern art, the human figure takes center stage. His figures, which often appear fragile and vulnerable, explore themes of human suffering, memory, and historical experiences. In addition to small-scale sculptures, he has also created monumental works for public spaces. In 2003, the Museo d’arte in Mendrisio dedicated a comprehensive retrospective to him.
