Rare Dino Martens "Saragozza" Vase, circa 1954 Murano, ca. 1954. Designed by Dino Martens, crafted by Aureliano Toso. “Saragozza” model. U-shaped, tubular vase with two upward-facing openings. Thick-walled Sommerso glass, colorless, with multicolored powder inclusions in black, light blue, red, white, and orange, which run in broad bands along the curved body of the vessel. Surface matted by etching (“corroso”). Signs of age and wear. Depth 10 cm, width 28 cm, height 21 cm Marc Heiremans, Dino Martens. Muranese Glass Designer 1922–1963, Arnoldsche Art Publishers, Stuttgart 1999, p. 96, Fig. 87 (design drawing “Saragozza,” model 5650) and Fig. 88 (U-shaped vase, model number unknown). According to Marc Heiremans’ catalog raisonné, the heavy Sommerso vases with colored interiors and etched surfaces were exhibited at the Venice Biennale and the Milan Triennale. Probably due to the time-consuming finishing process, only a few examples were produced. A comparable U-shaped vase is depicted there in a contemporary photograph from the collection of Vetreria Aureliano Toso. Auction date: November 27, 2026 Approximate auction time: 11:03 a.m. CET
