Vase by Egidio Costantini, after Pablo Picasso’s “Burlesco” Venice, dated 1960. Based on a design by Pablo Picasso. Crafted by Egidio Costantini, Fucina degli Angeli. Light blue glass with a frosted, iridescent surface. Spherical body on a conical base, flared neck with a serrated rim. The wall is shaped like a face with eyebrows, a nose, and a mouth made of applied, black-violet iridescent glass, as well as eyes made of blue glass beads. On the sides, two arm-like projections with applied glass rings. Engraved on the base: “E. Costantini P. Picasso Fucina degli Angeli Venezia 1960.” Signs of age and wear. Height 44 cm Egidio Costantini (1912–2007) founded the workshop in Venice, which was named “Fucina degli Angeli” at the suggestion of Jean Cocteau. There, designs by artists such as Pablo Picasso, Marc Chagall, Max Ernst, and Oskar Kokoschka were realized in glass. The collaboration with Picasso began in 1954.
