A highly interesting pocket watch with a calendar and polychrome enamel painting. White enamel dial; in the upper panel, a lady seated on a rock with an empty birdcage on her lap; the bird is flying away to the left; below, a banner reading “L’ingrat m’a quitté” (The ungrateful one has left me). Time of day on a small subdial at 6 o’clock. Date at 9 o’clock. Day of the week at 3 o’clock (in the lower semicircle with astrological symbols). Circling the outer edge from 9 to 3 o’clock are the months; from 3 to 9 o’clock are the signs of the zodiac. Each of the two circular segments is covered by a hand extending from the center. Fire-gilded spindle movement with a three-arm monometallic balance wheel beneath an openworked bridge. Smooth, gold-plated case. Enamel dial intact. Calendar functions not tested.
