Family Interior. Central European School. 19th century. Dimensions: 24 x 29 cm. This intimate genre scene depicts the interior of a home where a mother, seated in a rustic chair, tenderly embraces two of her children. The woman, dressed in peasant attire and a white hat, gazes gently at the boy clinging to her lap, while another child, covered with a blanket, shyly huddles beside her. A playful dog completes the foreground, accentuating the warm and affectionate atmosphere. In the background, an unmade bed and a table laden with fruit and vases lend authenticity to the setting. The light falls upon the faces and fabrics, highlighting the reds, ochres, and whites that chromatically balance the composition. The brushwork is detailed, particularly in the facial expressions and the surrounding objects, with a narrative and emotional approach reminiscent of the 19th-century bourgeois taste for interior scenes. This work belongs to the Central European tradition of genre painting, which celebrates family values, domestic life, and the bond between mother and children, with solid technical execution and a clear emotional intent. 24 x 29 cm. Due to its age and history of use, this lot may show signs of wear and previous interventions. Unless explicitly stated otherwise, no specialized technical testing has been performed. The absence of any mention of restorations does not guarantee that none exist. You may request additional information before placing a bid. This does not affect the buyer’s statutory rights.
