Attributed to JOSÉ DE PÁEZ (Mexico City, 1721–1780) - Our Lady of the Angels / New Spanish Colonial School, 18th century Oil on copper. Dimensions: 47 x 34 cm; 68 x 55 cm. This delicate painting depicts the crowned Virgin in a central position, surrounded by angels. Saint Joseph, holding a flowering rod, and a donor kneel at her feet in an attitude of prayer. The scene, framed by a mystical glow, stands out for its vibrant colors and attention to detail in the faces, clothing, and halos. The craftsmanship reveals the enameled brushwork characteristic of 18th-century viceregal painting in New Spain, particularly the work of José de Páez, the heir to Juan Rodríguez Juárez. The copper support enhances the nuances of the light, and the ornate frame underscores the devotional nature of the work. Due to its age and history of use, this lot may show signs of wear and previous interventions. Unless explicitly stated otherwise, no specialized technical testing has been performed. The absence of any mention of restorations does not guarantee that none exist. You may request additional information before placing a bid. This does not affect the buyer’s statutory rights.
