Ritual coin-hoe. Idoma people, Nigeria. 19th–20th century Iron. Dimensions: 48 × 24 cm. A wrought-iron object used as a form of traditional currency and a symbol of value within the economic and ritual systems of the Idoma people. These hoe-money objects served a dual purpose—both practical and symbolic—and were used in exchanges, ceremonial payments, and other significant social contexts. Their formal simplicity and patina of use reflect their authenticity and importance within the material culture of West Africa. Lot stored in an international warehouse (within the EU). Intra-EU shipping: no import duties apply within the EU. An export permit from the country of origin may be required. Due to its age and history of use, this lot may show signs of wear and previous interventions. Unless explicitly stated otherwise, no specialized technical testing has been performed. The absence of any mention of restorations does not guarantee that none exist. You may request additional information before placing a bid. This does not affect the buyer’s statutory rights.
Delivery is optional. You can use the carrier of your choice. The stated price does not include the lot price or the auction house fees.
