1058 - Gilded corrugated iron sculpture of the Virgin and Child. European School. 19th century.

Gilded corrugated iron sculpture of the Virgin and Child. European School. 19th century. Gilded corrugated iron with a carved wooden base. Dimensions: 22 x 9 x 7 cm and 14 x 13 x 13 cm. The figure depicts the Virgin holding the Child Jesus, both rendered with smooth and elegant modeling, in a vertical composition of great balance. The uniform gilding accentuates the folds of the cloak and lends an air of solemnity and serenity. The work reflects the religious sensibility and technical refinement characteristic of 19th-century European devotional sculpture, influenced by the Neo-Gothic and Neo-Renaissance models prevalent in French and Italian workshops. The wooden base enhances the ensemble and provides a warm contrast to the metallic sheen of the figure. Due to its age and history of use, this lot may show signs of wear and previous interventions.
