André Klein (1861–?) – Farm in La Wantzenau, Signed, French School, 19th Century Watercolor on paper. Dimensions: 43 x 65 cm. Dated circa 1890, this work is by André Klein (born in La Wantzenau on March 28, 1861), an architect associated with the city of Strasbourg during the second half of the 19th century. The composition depicts a traditional farm in La Wantzenau, near La Robertsau, featuring half-timbered buildings and pitched roofs typical of Alsatian vernacular architecture. Executed with loose brushwork and a harmonious palette of ochres, greens, and blues, the work captures the serene and luminous atmosphere of the countryside. The balanced arrangement of forms and the precision in spatial organization reflect both the artist’s architectural training and his artistic sensibility. On the reverse is a handwritten inscription providing biographical details and the location, adding further documentary value. The piece belongs to the French landscape tradition of the late 19th century, where direct observation of the rural environment is combined with technical refinement and notable ethnographic interest. Due to its age and history of use, this lot may show signs of wear and previous interventions. Unless explicitly stated otherwise, no specialized technical testing has been performed. The absence of any mention of restorations does not guarantee that none exist. You may request additional information before placing a bid. This does not affect the buyer’s statutory rights.
