REPUBLIC OF CONGO Tumba statuette, Sundi style Light wood, kaolin, black; local repair on the headdress. A rare piece. This statuette, known as a Tumba, was primarily used in funeral rites. It comes from the Bouenza region in the Republic of the Congo, and its iconography is strongly influenced by the Phemba maternity figures—notably in the body posture and headdress—which were also produced by the Sundi ethnic group. H.: 49 cm
