LAURENCIN, Marie [Paris, 1883 – id., 1956], French painter and printmaker. Autograph letter signed “Marie” addressed to Nathalie Clifford-Barney, an American writer. October 29, 1951; 3 pages, in-12° format. She expresses a desire to see her friend and explains that she is having some problems with her apartment and is feeling tired. She then gives a very brief update: “Oh, Germaine Beaumont—we cried together at Marie de Chambrun’s funeral. On Rue de Sèvres, there’s a Swiss-born poultry merchant who’s crazy about G.B.’s writings. He buys *Nouvelles Littéraires* to read it and asks me which of her books he should buy. When we talk about her, thousand-franc bills can fly out the door. His wife, who’s older than he is, is furious. We’re trying to work on more modeling jobs. The little French girl hired by Hébertot for the tour is thrilled! The other fiancée has a Dutchman! Oh! My models—it’s so hard to find a hand that obeys. Here’s my dear Nathalie.”
