THÉROIGNE DE MÉRICOURT Anne-Josèphe Terwagne, known as [, 1762 –, 1817], revolutionary leader, nicknamed “the Amazon of Liberty”; having come to the defense of the Girondins, she was flogged by the women of a club and went mad. “List of members of the Society of Friends of the Law who have signed up under the presidency of Mr. LLaraminat.” Signed document; March 10, 1790, 1 folio page. This society aimed to breathe new life into public morals and promote the benefits of the Revolution. It existed for only a very short time; its members joined the Cordeliers Club, with which they shared the same ideas. Among the other signatories were: Larminat, Sponville, Bugnet, D’autic, Chapsal, Hochet de la Terrie, Otcher, Gilbert Romme, and Beaulieu.
