GOUGES, Olympe de—Patriotic Remarks, by “La Citoyenne,” author of *Letter to the People* (original title). No place, (December 1788). In-8, 48 pp., softcover, no cover. BLANC 127. She sets forth a program of social reforms that frightens “the wealthy individuals and the court.” In this work, which also made the “front page” of the *Journal Général de France*, Olympe remains, on the whole, cautious and moderate and spares the monarchy. However, she voices genuine criticism of the privileged classes, such as the “ruthless rich” who “conceal their fortunes,” and “unproductive capital” that would be better utilized in the state treasury.
