FERNIG Théophile [1775–1819], a female soldier who served as an officer on Dumouriez’s general staff. Signed autograph letter addressed to a school principal. Paris, December 16, 1817; 1 page, in-8°. She asks the principal to release her nephews before her departure from Paris on Saturday the 20th. “My plea is most earnest, Mr. Principal! I will not see these children again for a long time, since I usually reside in Brussels and will likely not return to Paris before the return of my sister Guilleminot, whose absence may still last three years. .... For this reason, and out of my deep affection for these children whom I have raised, I dare to hope that you will not deny the favor requested by your humble servant.”
