TENCIN Claudine-Alexandrine Guérin, Marquise de [Grenoble, 1685 – Paris, 1749], writer; she hosted a literary salon. Autograph letter signed “de Tencin.” 1 page, in-4° A thank-you letter for the advice she received. Enclosed is a handwritten copy of the “will of La Fresnay,” who was the Marquise de Tencin’s lover. In this will, he accuses Madame Tencin of causing his ruin and driving him to suicide. Because of this will, the Marquise was imprisoned in the Bastille for several months.
