Autograph letter signed “F D’Aubigny Maintenon” addressed to Mademoiselle de Scudéry, a friend and protégée of Madame de Maintenon. Saint-Germain, January 4; 1½ pages, in-4°. Small hole on the last page caused by breaking the wax seal. “My joy would not have been complete had you not assured me that you are taking part in this, and I must tell you, Mademoiselle, that I in some way deserve the kindnesses with which your letter is filled, given the high regard I have always held for you. I also know that one does not distinguish oneself much by esteeming you, but I have not regretted it […] that one cannot refuse you, and there is nothing I would not do to convince you that no one in the world honors you as particularly as I do, and that I am, more than I can tell you, your most humble and most obedient servant.” 200/300 €
