DU NOYER, Anne-Marguerite Petit, Lady—Memoirs of Madame du N**. Written by herself. Cologne, Pierre Marteau, 1710. 5 vols., small 12mo, 5 frontispieces, fawn calf from the publisher, decorated ribbed spine, small light stain on one cover. First edition and the only one containing the complete text. Du Noyer (Nîmes 1663–The Hague 1719) recounts her tribulations in France, Switzerland, and Holland, as well as various conflicts that pitted her against her husband, Protestant sects, and those arising from her daughters’ marriages. She portrays her husband, King Louis XIV, and the former Camisard leader Jean Cavelier, who was a suitor of one of her daughters. The memoirs constitute an important account of Huguenot emigrants in the aftermath of the Revocation of the Edict of Nantes and during the years 1663–1710.
