ANGENNES, Julie d', Duchess of Montausier [, 1607 –, 1671], a famous member of the Précieuses movement for whom *La Guirlande de Julie* was composed. Autograph letter signed “Julie Dangennes” addressed to “Monseigneur” [Mazarin]. Angoulême, July 20 [1652]; 4 pages, in-4°. She expresses her “dispair [...] over the injury sustained by Monsieur, your nephew; have no doubt that it is deeply distressing to you, both because of what it means to you and because, through his own merit, he has earned such a reputation at his young age.” I pray to God with all my heart that He may preserve you; the ailments of Mr. de Montausier [her husband] are still so severe that, though thank God he is now out of danger, he cannot himself assure Your Eminence of his most humble service.” She commends the bearer of this letter to Mazarin and attests to “the zeal he has shown in the service of the King, having been present on all occasions that have occurred in these provinces—whether in the provinces themselves or in La Rochelle—with Monsieur d’Harcourt or with Monsieur de Montausier”...
