Vincenzo Irolli (Naples 1860 – Naples 1949) – Portrait of a Woman 38 x 39 cm (height) in frame 63 x 53 cm (height), oil on panel Signed lower left. Vincenzo Irolli was born in Naples in 1860. As a teenager, he took up painting and later enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples. In 1879, he won first prize at the 15th Salvator Rosa Exhibition of the Promotrice delle Belle Arti, achieving moderate success and launching his flourishing artistic career. He exhibited in numerous Italian and European cities, also participating in the 13th Venice Biennale in 1922. He died in Naples in 1949. Our painting is characterized by beautiful, rapid, layered brushstrokes from which emerges, in a pensive pose, an evocative portrait of a woman.
