CHRISTIAN DIOR HAUTE COUTURE BY MARC BOHAN Brown sable jacket, circa 1960 A brown sable jacket, circa 1960 Large white-on-black woven Paris label, with elbow-length sleeves, wide bateau neckline, hem edged in tails, lined in black silk, chest approx. 102 cm, 40 in. Provenance: Originally owned by Mrs. Beverley Hylton (née Prowse, of Queensland, Australia), the wife of Jack Hylton, the world-famous bandleader and impresario. A great beauty, she was crowned Miss Victoria in her homeland and voted Miss Australia by the readers of the News of the World in 1954, as there was no official Australian contestant at the time. The following year, she was officially crowned Miss Australia and was the runner-up in the 1955 Miss World competition. Before her marriage, she occasionally modeled for Balmain, Dior, and Givenchy. After her marriage in the early 1960s, her wealthy husband, Jack Hylton, sent her to the Paris couture shows to choose a new wardrobe, but she returned to London empty-handed, explaining that the clothes were too expensive. Her husband was so outraged that he put her back on the very next plane and told her to place some orders!
