Henri Rachou (1855–1944) Cyclamens. 1894. Lithograph. [134 x 180 mm]. Fine print on white vellum, fully mounted on Bristol board. Scattered light foxing. Full margins. Provenance: Michel Romand (1929–2013), great-grandson of Edmond Sagot (1857–1917). This plate was used to illustrate the catalog for the exhibition organized by the newspaper *La Dépêche de Toulouse*, which opened on May 15, 1894, in the newspaper’s showrooms. Among the artists who also contributed lithographic illustrations were Pierre Bonnard, Maurice Denis, Eugène Grasset, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Félix Vallotton, and Édouard Vuillard… Rachou and Toulouse-Lautrec, fellow Frenchmen, maintained a long-standing friendship. It is likely that Rachou learned the lithographic “crachis” technique used here from his friend.
