On the back of the display case, a stamp from the taxidermy workshop “H. T. SHOPLAND, CARVER, GILDER and naturalist 40, Higher Union Street, TORQUAY.” (Sold as is; one glass pane and one wooden strip need to be reattached to one side of the display case; nevertheless, a beautiful antique piece from a cabinet of curiosities.) Height: 84 cm; Width: 84 cm; Depth: 32.5 cm. This diorama, created by Hugh Thomas SHOPLAND, is strikingly realistic in the positioning of the taxidermied specimens and the reconstruction of the cliffs and artificial rocks typical of the habitat of these bird species. The Carver Gilder company was established in 1851 in Torquay (Devon, southern England) and developed extensive expertise in the taxidermy of mammals and birds and the creation of dioramas. This diorama dates from before 1910. *Bird species not listed in the Washington Convention (CITES), European Union Regulation 338/97 of December 9, 1996, and taxidermy performed prior to the enactment of the French Environmental Code (CE).
