Marbled calfskin of the era, spine with raised bands and gilt fleurons with a red title label, marbled edges (top cap missing, bottom cap incomplete, small wormhole on the spine, rubbed edges, corners somewhat worn). Interior in very good condition. Reprint of the memoirs of Louis XIV’s famous privateer, the original edition of which, published in 1730, was continued by the author’s nephew in 1740. Includes a nautical glossary and a list of the ships and crews commanded by the author. Ill. (complete) of 7 half-titles: frontispiece portrait of the author (pre-letter), 5 folding plates, 4 of which depict naval battles, by J.P. Le Bas, and a large folding map of Rio de Janeiro Bay by A.
