1119 - DE BIE, Jacques. A book containing the genealogy and lineage of the House of Croÿ, both of the main line—which is the head of the family name and coat of arms—and of the branches and collateral lines of the said house. [Antwerp: J. De Bie, 17th c.] Folio: [51] engravings (some light foxing, mostly in the margins; some marginal stains). Contemporary marbled paper boards. The work was entirely engraved by Jacques De Bie, commissioned by Charles de Croÿ (1560–1612) in memory of his ancestors. It remained unfinished at his death in 1612, and the text intended to accompany the engravings was never printed. The number of engravings varies from one copy to another. Our set is likely from a later 17th-century edition with a watermark not recorded by *Bibliotheca Belgica* (a vase surmounted by a fleur-de-lis) and consists of 51 (of 75 according to *BB*) engravings: 4 (of 10: 6 genealogical trees missing)) preliminary plates—title within a Renaissance border featuring 6 coats of arms, the arms and motto of the House of Croÿ, a portrait of Charles de Croÿ, titles of Ch. de Croÿ within an architectural portico - and 47 (of 58, the last 8 appearing only in the second edition) portraits. The 7 views are missing. Enriched with 2 additional medallion portraits (mounted on contemporary leaves). Ref. BB I:291-292. - Saffroy 39638 (“A very rare work that has never been found with an identical collation”). Provenance: Pierre-Marie de Calonne de Beaufaict (or Beaufay) (d. 1762), Canon of Tournai Cathedral and author of local historical and genealogical works (manuscript entry on title page dated 174[7?]). - Darmane or D’Armand? (ibid.).
