1065 - MESCHINOT, Jean, “Les lunettes des pri[n]ces avecques aulcunes ballades et additions [...]. (Paris: Mignart, 1495)” Small 8vo: [247] pp. (title and last leaf replaced by an old manuscript copy; a small portion of the black margin on leaf D8 is missing, affecting the text; small tears [partially restored] and a hole in leaf Q3; some black lower edges restored). 18th-century red sheepskin, gilt frames on boards, richly gilt flat spine (slightly rubbed). A very rare edition of the principal work by the Breton poet Meschinot (1420–1491), who was active at the court of the Dukes of Brittany and later served as “maître d’hôtel” to the young Anne of Brittany (1477–1514). Some small initials throughout and a small woodcut on leaf N3. The illustration on the manuscript title page is likely based on a 16th-century engraving depicting Chrétien de Troyes. Ref. *Les lunettes des princes*. Paris, *Cabinet du bibliophile*, 1890, p. x. - This edition (as indicated on the manuscript title page and colophon) is not listed in the ISTC (which mentions three works by Mignart, all dated 1495), GW (which mentions only two works by Mignart), Bechtem, *Gothiques français*, Polain, etc. Provenance: Georges Martin (armored bookplate).
