GOBELINUS, Jean-Henry, “Genealogy of the House of Bette, Together with the Evidence Presented to the Most Noble and Most Illustrious Chapter of St. Waudru in Mons. On behalf of Mademoiselle de Lede, daughter of Sir Guilliame Bette, Marquis of Lede." Brussels 1646, In-f°: [2]-126 ff., some of which are blank, brown ink on laid paper with a watermark depicting a lamb in a crowned cartouche, in French (first and last ff. stained and somewhat frayed, water stain on f. 3, small spots and small holes on a few rare ff., otherwise well preserved). Parchment binding, four leather cords, handwritten title on the spine (slightly stained, book block detached). A contemporary copy of a work published in Antwerp in 1646, under the title “Preuves de la maison de Bette [...],” by J.-H. Gobelinus, a former Jesuit from Luxembourg who became a canon of the Collegiate Church of Saints Michael and Gudula, an art lover and collector. The copy is in the hand of Ferdinand Anchemant (d. Ghent, 1675), lord of Broodsende or Brezende near Bruges, whose second wife, Isabelle le Poyvre, was related to the Bette family. This family, originally from the Ath region and whose members were lords of La Hamaide, produced numerous aldermen and bailiffs of Ghent as early as the 14th century. The evidence was compiled for Honorine Marie (?–1716), daughter of Guillaume Bette (1610–1658), Grand Bailiff of Ghent, made Baron and later Marquis of Lede by King Philip IV of Spain in 1633, and Marie-Françoise de Hornes, daughter of Gérard III, Count of Hornes, and Honorine de Witthem, Lady of Arquennes.
