1034 - [ANCHEMANT, Ferdinand] "Genealogy of the House of Anchemant." [Bruges? c. 1660] In-f°: [7]–134 ff., some of which are blank, brown ink on laid paper with a watermark depicting a fleur-de-lis in a crowned cartouche bearing the monogram “WR,” in French (waterstained). Epistolary parchment, four leather cords, handwritten title on the spine (slightly soiled, traces of cords). Well preserved, untrimmed. An important unpublished, unsigned manuscript, but in the same hand as that identified in other manuscripts (see in particular lot no. 1059) by Ferdinand Anchemant (d. Ghent, 1675), Lord of Broodsende or Brezende near Bruges, an estate located in Donk-Maldegem. This family settled in the County of Flanders, notably in Ghent and Bruges, where several of its members held important municipal and ecclesiastical offices. The author traces, with great detail and copies of documents, the history of his lineage of Burgundian origin, dating back to the 14th century with the alliance between the Saint-Amour and Anchemant families and ending in the early 1660s. A few coats of arms are sketched briefly in pen. A large portion of the manuscript chronicles the career of Pierre Anchemant (1460–1506), the author’s great-grandfather, who served as secretary and diplomat to Maximilian of Austria and Philip the Fair. Enriched with a few loose documents: Blasere, Viscount of Hellebuste, G[uillaume] de—letter to “Monsieur mon cousin” [Anchemant]. Ghent, November 11, 1652. 1 p. in-8° on laid paper with watermark (small hole not affecting the text). A fine letter of congratulations on his appointment as mayor of Franc in Bruges, from G. (Willem) de Blasere (c. 1592–1653), alderman of Ghent. - Excerpt from the archives of the Augustinian monastery in Paris with a large drawn coat of arms (1 folio dated 1660). - 4 additional pp. (bifolio) in another hand recounting the life of Cornelis Anchemant, colonel of a cavalry regiment in 1625. - 4 small notes. Ref. Van de Woestijne, Paul, “Feudal Maldegem (12th century to 1795): The Feudal Courts and Fiefs,” in: Appeltjes van het Meetjesland, no. 64, 2013, pp. 209–308 (entry on p. 248, which cites: Verstraete, Daniël, “Ferdinand Anchement en Brezende,” in: Vrij Maldegem, 27, 1976, note 2).
