1032 - RACLOT, J. "The Christian Devotion, or Morning and Evening Prayers with a Short Exercise for Every Day of the Week. Brussels, 1710.” Small 4to: [2]-320 pp. (2 folios missing; lower margin of title page trimmed; curious smudge—not obscuring the text—on the illustration of the burning heart; heavy foxing on the frame of the Tuesday prayers). Red morocco leather of the era, covers edged with a gilt fillet featuring angular fleurons, spine with gilt fleurons and raised bands, gilt roll on the edges and fillets, inner covers and endpapers of blue Brokat paper bearing the mark "AUGSP. BEY. G CHRISTOPH STOY CPSCM [Cum Privilegium Stoy Christoph M... ?],” gilt edges (scuffed, stains on the covers, top of the upper white endpaper trimmed). A charming manuscript in very neat calligraphy, adorned with an ornate title page and 9 full-page illustrations depicting the Sacred Heart, the Tetragrammaton, the burning heart, the Holy Chalice, and the Holy Cross (2 full pages missing on pp. 244 and 308). The text is entirely surrounded by a frame with identical ornamentation but in various colors corresponding to the different times or days when the prayers are to be recited. An interesting example of Brokatpapier bearing the mark of the Augsburg manufacturer Georg Christoph Stoy (1670–1750). Ref. Kromp, Buntpapier, 3/1:16.
