(we have parts 1–9) of this ambitious compilation, based on accounts by English, Dutch, and French travelers, most of which are devoted to Asia (the East Indies, China, Siam, Tartary, the Maluku Islands, etc.), but also to Africa. Abundantly illustrated under the direction of Van Schley: 51 folding maps, 14 full-page maps, and 268 plates (88 of which are folding) depicting plans, views, monuments, indigenous peoples, local flora and fauna, etc. Ref.
