DE JODE, Cornelius, *China, regnum*. Antwerp: C. de Jode [1593]. Engr., 36.4 x 45.3 cm, hand-colored (some very light soiling along the central fold). Early map of China within an ornate foliate strapwork border containing four vignettes depicting everyday Chinese life—the etching of which is attributed to Peeter van der Borcht—and two text cartouches. It also covers parts of Japan and Northeast Asia. Based on the accounts of Juan González de Mendoza and Pietro Giovanni Maffei. Published exclusively in Gerard de Jode’s *Speculum Orbis Terrae* (1593), making it extremely rare (Latin text on the reverse, leaf KK2). Ref. Van der Krogt 32:02 & [8410:32]. - New Hollstein (Cornelis de Jode II) 1 (map 14).
