RUBENS, Albert Notarial deed concerning the payment of 29,000 florins for 33 paintings commissioned by the late sovereign of the Southern Netherlands. Antwerp, June 27, 1642. Folio bifolium: 2 1/2 pp., brown ink, watermarked laid paper, Dutch, signed by the notary Guÿot, attestation signed “Rubens” dated July 4, 1642 (2 holes without loss of text, small tears at the folds, some marginal soiling). The sum, which was astronomical for the time, was paid by Jacques van Ophem, Chief Collector in the Brussels District of the King’s Estates in Brabant.
