THEURIET, André 4 letters to "Dear Sir" ("Sir and dear colleague") [Léon Bérardi]. Paris, 1879–1883. Two-page sheets, in-12 format, signed “André Theuriet” (slight creases from mailing). Very good condition. An interesting collection of literary and editorial correspondence addressed to the editor of “L’Indépendance belge.” In these letters, Theuriet discusses, among other things, the serialization of his novel “Le fils Maugars,” then scheduled for publication by Charpentier (1879): he explains to Bérardi the need to enter into an agreement with the Société des gens de lettres and, seeking to convince him, promises him exclusive rights to the novel. He also hopes to have his short story “La princesse verte” (1883) published in the newspaper and thanks his correspondent for the reviews of his “Poésies” and one of his novels: “the judgment of one of Belgium’s most authoritative and erudite critics is of great value to me [...].” A letter regarding *Sauvageonne*, which had just been published (1880), also contains a request for information about a girls’ boarding school in Brussels offering a position as a French teacher to an acquaintance of his wife.
