784 - SUPERVIELLE, Jules: 16 letters and handwritten notes, 3 poems, and 1 autographed photograph addressed to Pierre-Louis Flouquet, painter and editor of the *Journal des Poètes*. Paris, Brussels, Beaumont-Pied-de-Boeuf (France), 1932–1960. Various sizes (a few binder holes, minor fraying with no loss of material, some traces of paper clips, photo slightly creased). Loose, in a polyester sleeve. Correspondence relating to the journal founded in 1931 by a group of French-speaking Belgian poets and edited by P.-L. Flouquet (1900–1967), a French painter and poet based in Brussels and a friend of Magritte. The letters, dated from 1932 to 1959, span the entire period of their relationship until the end of Supervielle’s life (1884–1960). “I would be very happy to join your Journal des Poètes as a friend and hope to be in Paris for their next meeting [the Journal organized banquets alternately in Paris and Brussels]” (March 2, 1932). In subsequent letters, he discusses his projects, the proofs of poems published in the journal, and a banquet in honor of Pierre Bourgeois and Paul Vanderborght; he offers praise and encouragement: “I know all that you and your friends are doing for French-language poetry, and you are not merely a ‘curious man’ but one of the most generous spirits of our time! [...]” (January 19, 1938); in August 1951, he declined the presidency of the Knokke Poetry Biennial (of which the journal is the official organ), an event mentioned in other letters, etc. In his most recent letter (July 27, 1959), he mentions his health concerns and writes these sadly prophetic words (he died on May 17, 1960): “And if I am still alive next year, I am sure you and your friends will say, ‘So much the better, my dear Supervielle.’” Includes 3 poems: an autograph manuscript (included in the letter of October 14, 1947) and a proof (2 folios, one of which includes a facsimile reproduction of the handwritten text) of the poem “Confusion”—an autograph manuscript undated autograph manuscript of an untitled poem;—typescript of “Rencontre” (2 ff. with title and a few handwritten corrections); black-and-white photograph of Supervielle (Dougla Glass Studio, Riverside, USA), c. 1960, with an undated autograph inscription “to Flouquet and the Journal des Poètes.” Ref. Béghin, L.; Roland, H. – “The First Series of Pierre-Louis Flouquet’s *Journal des Poètes* (1931–1935) and Its Network of Mediators,” in: *Textyles*, 52, 2018, pp. 93–110.
