ROPS, Félicien. L.A.S. to "My dear [Gaston] Bérardi." Paris, June 14, 1885. 1 p., two-leaf in-12, black ink on slate-colored paper with the watermark “C.G. & S. [in a heart]/ London,” signed “Félicien Rops.” “I’d like to introduce you to Mr. Péladan, who has a ‘good deal’ to offer you. The collection he will show you is one of a kind, and I would be delighted to see it in your home—however horrifying it may be.” P.S.: “[Armand] Gouzien joins me in introducing Mr. Péladan—and the rare collection.” Here, Rops recommends the writer, art critic, and occultist Joséphin (“Sâr”) Péladan (1858–1918), a singular figure of Symbolism and future founder of the Salons de la Rose-Croix. Gaston Bérardi (1849–1926), a Belgian art critic and composer, succeeded his father Léon as editor-in-chief of the newspaper *L’Indépendance belge* in 1884.
