Guestbook of "Swiss Grill La Paroisse" in Brussels. [Brussels 1965–1968] In-8°, bound: ± [110] leaves, vellum paper, pen, pencil, markers of various colors, in French, Dutch, English, German, Spanish, etc. (a few small water stains, mostly on the margins; traces of adhesive tape on 2 double-page spreads). Leather embossed and chiseled in a woodgrain pattern, signed L. Petit; poly-lobed framing with an embossed inscription on the upper cover; plain spine with raised bands (cap ends and corners slightly worn). A quirky and delightful guestbook containing several hundred signatures, messages, caricatures, and drawings created by a cosmopolitan clientele, often in a humorous spirit. Notably, there is a page featuring drawings and signatures by three major Belgian comic book artists: Roba (Bill from “Boule et Bill”), Morris (a Dalton from “Lucky Luke”), and Tibet (Kid Ordinn from “Chick Bill”). Also included are various whimsical or clearly hoax-like signatures borrowing the names of celebrities such as Charles de Gaulle, Marlon Brando, Mireille Mathieu, Brigitte Bardot, and Johnny Hallyday, reflecting the playful and festive spirit that pervades the album. A remarkable document of social life and popular culture in the 1960s.
