S5, 3K1, 4I5—the last one with paper reinforcement, some old marginal annotations in French). 18th-century half brown sheep with vellum corners, marbled paper on boards, gilt-ruled flat spine (heavily worn, joints split). Collected medical writings of A. Paré (1510–1590), with preliminary verses by, among others, Ronsard. Large engraved printer’s mark on the title page and numerous woodcuts: the author’s portrait and hundreds of in-text illustrations depicting anatomical details, dissections, autopsies, deformities, fracture reductions, surgical instruments, prostheses and assistive devices, human and marine monsters, real and mythical animals, etc. Ref.
