MOVADO, Switzerland. Museum. Quartz. Elegant wristwatch with a circular gold-plated case and a snap-on back. Water-resistant. Ref. 87-A2-867. No. 1847296. Plain black dial with a single hour marker at 12 o’clock. Gold Dauphine hands (no central seconds hand). Case diameter (excluding crown): 35 mm. Quartz movement (not tested for sale, no warranty). 1960s/70s. Very good condition, slight signs of wear. Comes with its flexible gold-plated metal rice-grain link bracelet, the buckle bearing the “M” logo, and an attached “Tandem” promotional sticker. The history of the Movado Museum watch began in 1947 thanks to the American modernist designer Nathan George Horwitt, who was inspired by the Bauhaus artistic movement and envisioned a minimalist, uncluttered dial devoid of numerals or hour markers, marked simply by a gold dot at 12 o’clock representing the sun at its zenith on a sundial. It would become the first watch dial to be selected for inclusion in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York.
Delivery is optional. You can use the carrier of your choice. The stated price does not include the lot price or the auction house fees.
