CERTINA, Switzerland. DS. Wristwatch with a circular gold-plated metal case and a screw-down steel caseback, adorned with the famous turtle motif. Champagne-colored dial with applied baton hour markers, date window at 3 o’clock with a Cyclops lens, signed. Luminescent baton hands and central seconds hand. Case diameter (excluding crown): 35 mm. Self-winding mechanical movement (functioning at the time of sale, no warranty). 1960s. Good condition, signs of use and wear. Pits on the dial. Non-original winding crown. Comes with a leather strap, attached separately. In 1959, Certina revolutionized the market by inventing the “DS” concept. The goal was to create the most robust and water-resistant watch of its time. And to prove the DS’s durability, Certina did not hesitate to stage striking publicity stunts: DS watches were dropped from a height of 6 meters onto a concrete slab, weighted down with a load, without sustaining any damage or loss of accuracy.
