French School, c. 1900. "Nymph." Plaster. Measurements: 36 x 72 x 31 cm. The work depicts a reclining nymph beside a vase from which water flows, a classic representation of a personification of a fountain or water nymph (naiad) common in 18th- and 19th-century European art. This piece evokes the compositions of Classicism and decorative Romanticism. The figure rests naturally against a rocky and vegetated setting, while pouring water that symbolically gives rise to a spring.
