170 - 18TH-CENTURY ROMAN PAINTER

18TH-CENTURY ROMAN PAINTER MADONNA AND CHILD WITH ANGELS Oil on canvas, 21x16 cm. Gilded and carved wooden frame, 18th century. The painting, depicting the Madonna and Child with saints, can be attributed to 18th-century Roman painting, specifically to the circle of Sebastiano Conca (Gaeta, 1680 – Naples, 1764). The composition, characterized by an intimate, devotional atmosphere, features figures arranged within a balanced compositional framework, with soft chiaroscuro transitions and a refined color palette dominated by the blues of the Virgin’s mantle. The gentleness of the expressions, the fluidity of the drapery, and the delicate rendering of the skin tones evoke the style of Sebastiano Conca and his circle, who interpreted the classical and late Roman Baroque styles.
