Stefano della Bella - landscape with windmill - c.1643 Description: Original etching by the Florentine printmaker Stefano della Bella, depicting a picturesque rural landscape dominated by a windmill, surrounded by peasants, horsemen and animals. In the left foreground, a family rests beneath a tree, while two figures on horseback approach the mill. Inscribed "Israel excud. cum priuil/ Regis.". Published in Paris by Israël Henriet around 1643, the print is plate numbered "10" from the series 'Diverses Paisages', comprising twelve landscape etchings. This finely executed composition exemplifies Della Bella’s delicate etching technique and his remarkable ability to capture lively figures within expansive landscapes. Examples are held in the collections of the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam and the British Museum, London. A preparatory drawing for this composition is preserved in the Hermitage Museum, St Petersburg.
