Dutch School 16th Century - Adam and Eve Shown the Tree of Knowledge - Crossbow watermark Description: Pen and brown ink with brown wash, on laid paper, with a crossbow watermark. ---- Adam and Eve kneel before God, who gestures toward the Tree of Knowledge in Paradise. The bold pen work and warm brown wash reflect the late Mannerist draughtsman ship of the Netherlands around 1580–1620. The sheet, executed on laid paper with a crossbow watermark widely used in the Low Countries during the 16th century, confirms an early date. The style shows strong affinities with the Haarlem Mannerist circle, with artists such as Jan Saenredam and Hendrick Goltzius. Dimensions: 21,50 x 15,00 cm Condition: Laid paper with crossbow watermark visible. Excellent condition with no flaws at all. Literature: - Medium: Brown ink drawing with wash Date: 1580-1610
