The personification of Charity is seated nude on a stone ledge, holding an infant in her lap, while a second child embraces her from behind. At upper left an angel holds a halo above her head. Lettered “L” at lower center and “CARITAS” on the banderole at upper right. Engraving, 169 × 111 mm. The third plate from Lucas van Leyden’s series of seven Virtues, two plates of which are dated 1530. First state. References: New Hollstein (Lucas van Leyden) 129.I; Bartsch VII.407.129. Dimensions: 16,9 x 111 cm Condition: Very good impression on laid paper from the period, with the full plate border, with traces of margins. Watermarked. With two collection stamps on the backside, some very mid foxing. Inventory number in the lower left corner. Overall in very good condition.
