Hans Weiditz - Men dragging a cart - 1531 Description: Men dragging a cart up a steep incline. This woodcut was made by Hans Weiditz (1500-1536) who worked and travelled with Hans Burgkmair the Elder. The woodcut here seems to be indebted to Albrecht Dürer who's woodcut of a fool who drags a chart up to a steep incline is quite similar. Our woodcut was used in 1531 for Cicero, 'Officia', printed Augsburg by Steiner. Dimensions: 13,80 x 15,70 cm Condition: Woodcut trimmed one mm outside the borderline and wit the German text printed on the backside. Tipped with corners on a support sheet. In good condition. Literature: Dodgson 1903, 1911 / Catalogue of Early German and Flemish Woodcuts in the BM, 2 vols (II.176.90) Medium: Woodcut Date: 1531
