EDUARDO PAOLOZZI (England, 1924–2005) & TIMO SARPANEVA (Finland, 1926–2006) for Rosenthal. Ice bucket and teapot. “Suomi” series. Limited edition, c. 1970 Glazed porcelain. Certificate included. Measurements: 19 x 19 x 19 cm; 17 x 20 x 13 cm (teapot). Both pieces belong to Rosenthal’s Suomi series, originally conceived in 1976 by Finnish designer Timo Sarpaneva (1926–2006). Inspired by the soft, rounded shapes of water-worn pebbles, the collection is a benchmark of Scandinavian design due to its synthesis of functionality, formal purity, and organic sensibility. These clean-lined forms are adorned with a graphic design by Scottish artist Eduardo Paolozzi (1924–2005), a leading figure in postwar British art and a key contributor to the development of Pop Art. His contribution transforms the simplicity of the porcelain into a surface for artistic expression, blending industrial design with visual art. The collaboration is part of Rosenthal’s Limited Art Series, an initiative that invited internationally renowned artists to reinterpret the brand’s designs. The set exemplifies Rosenthal’s commitment to integrating contemporary art into everyday objects, transforming functional tableware into collectible pieces that blend Nordic design with graphic experimentation.
