Turtle-shaped chest; Spain, 1990s. Carved wood. Measurements: 45 x 115 x 52 cm. Original decorative chest made of carved wood, shaped like a turtle. The piece combines the sculptural quality of the animal figure with the practical function of a small container, integrating the lid into the design of the shell. The carving work highlights the animal’s volumes and organic forms, adding texture and character to the piece as a whole. The choice of the turtle—a recurring motif in the decorative arts due to its symbolic association with longevity, protection, and wisdom—gives the piece an appealing figurative character. Made in Spain during the 1990s, it reflects the popularity of naturalistic-inspired decorative objects, in which craftsmanship and functionality come together to create unique pieces.
