148 - Based on the Kaiser Idell 6631 Luxus model by CHRISTIAN DELL (Offenbach am Main, 1893 – Wiesbaden, 1974).

Based on the Kaiser Idell 6631 Luxus model by CHRISTIAN DELL (Offenbach am Main, 1893 – Wiesbaden, 1974). Bauhaus-style table lamp. Original design from 1936. Lacquered steel and chrome-plated metal. The shade and arm are adjustable via joints. Shows signs of wear consistent with its age. Measurements: 41 x 31 x 31 cm. The lamp reproduces the characteristic configuration of the Model 6631 Luxus designed by Christian Dell: a circular base, a curved tubular arm, and a wide, domed shade, all articulated to direct light onto the work surface. The combination of black lacquer and chrome-plated metal emphasizes the clarity of the design and the hallmarks of contrast between the different forms. Its design reflects the German functionalism promoted by the Bauhaus, based on the elimination of ornamentation, the use of industrial materials, and the subordination of form to function. Christian Dell worked as technical director of the metal workshop at the Bauhaus in Weimar from 1922 to 1925 and, beginning in 1926, developed numerous lighting designs for Gebr. Kaiser & Co. The Model 6631 Luxus appeared in the company’s 1936 catalog and became the most iconic piece in the Kaiser Idell series.
