Pair of Arts & Crafts candlesticks; attributed to WMF (Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik), c. 1900–1910. Silver-plated metal. Measurements: 38 x 12 x 12 cm (x2). A pair of candelabras with a distinctly architectural character, designed around a stylized, ascending structure. The slender, vertical shafts are paired with bases and finials featuring openwork ornamentation, articulated through plant and floral motifs that lend visual lightness and a pronounced decorative quality. The combination of architecturally inspired geometry and the fluidity of organic forms places these pieces within the realm of German Jugendstil, the Central European expression of Art Nouveau. Their design is reminiscent of the work of the Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik (WMF), one of the most prominent European manufacturers in the field of decorative metal arts in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Founded in Geislingen an der Steige in 1853 as Straub & Schweizer, the company adopted its final name in 1880, following its merger with Metallwarenfabrik Ritter & Co. By 1900, it had become a major international leader thanks to its ability to combine technical innovation, artistic design, and high-quality industrial production.
