Pair of bookends with duck heads. BRONCES ALMAZÁN. Spain, 1970s. Solid cast and polished brass. With the manufacturer’s stamp on the base. In good condition, with patina and surface marks on the bases. Measurements: 26 x 13.3 x 20 cm (each). This pair of bookends by Bronces Almazán is an attractive example of Spanish decorative design from the 1970s, a period in which functional objects took on an increasingly sculptural quality. Crafted from cast brass, the pieces depict two duck heads with stylized necks, rendered in a naturalistic style that pays special attention to the expressiveness of the eyes, beaks, and sculpted surfaces. The polished brass finish, with its intense golden sheen, accentuates the volumes and creates a dynamic play of reflections on the curved forms. The figures are mounted on angular bases, designed to provide stability and allow them to be used as bookends. The quality of the casting and the meticulous attention to detail in the finishes reflect the artisanal tradition of metalwork, reinterpreted through an aesthetic with a strong decorative presence.
