Pair of armchairs; mid-20th century. Leather upholstery and metal frame. They show signs of wear consistent with their age. Measurements: 81 x 64 x 75 cm (x2): 42 cm (diameter). A pair of armchairs that embodies the principles of mid-20th-century modern design through the combination of an exposed metal frame with upholstered surfaces featuring curved lines. The hallmarks of their formal character are the dark blue leather and the ivory-toned upholstered elements, while the configuration of the legs and side supports lends visual lightness to the ensemble. The pieces share a certain aesthetic affinity with Giovanni Saporiti’s Onda armchairs, particularly in the relationship between the volume of the seat, the enveloping backrest, and the exposed metal frame. This formal similarity refers to some of the lines of inquiry in mid-20th-century Italian design, characterized by the search for a balance between structural lightness, comfort, and formal refinement, as well as by the incorporation of technical solutions and industrial materials into domestic furniture. However, this resemblance should be understood in formal terms and does not allow for a direct attribution to Saporiti. They show signs of wear consistent with their age.
